Al Ata'a for Human Rights, founded in 2007, was the first organization to combat enforced disappearances in the Kirkuk region (Iraqi Kurdistan), and has now extended its activities to the whole country, where there are around 1 million cases of enforced disappearance. The association offers social, psychological and legal assistance to victims, and works to ensure that the government responds to enforced disappearances by passing appropriate legislation.
