The Tunisian Truth and Dignity Authority speaks out on the Tunis kidnapping of Moroccan activist Houcine El Manouzi
On December 31, 2019, the Tunisian Truth and Dignity Authority published the National Register of Victims of Human Rights Violations and Spoliations, which includes the names of 29949 victims.
The family of Moroccan trade unionist and political activist Houcine El Manouzi had previously submitted a request to the Truth and Dignity Commission, during the visit of its President, Ms. Sihem Ben Sedrine to Morocco on September 5, 2014, to elucidate the circumstances of Houcine El Manouzi's abduction on October 29, 1972 from the Tunisian capital, and to determine the responsibilities of the Tunisian authorities in the organization of the kidnapping operation and his transfer to Morocco After the start of its work, the Tunisian Instance again heard Houcine's family and carried out investigations, which led to the recent publication of a decree on the case of Houcine El Manouzi. For the latter, his case is one of violations of the right to life, and of enforced disappearance, and requires compensation from the Tunisian state for physical and moral injury.
The El Manouzi family salutes the members of the Tunisian Truth and Dignity Commission for their historic decision on Houcine's kidnapping in Tunis. They see it as an important step forward in their fight for truth and fairness. A fundamental achievement that reinforces the actions of Houcine's late parents, Hadj Ali El Manouzi and Hajja Khadija Chaou. For them, the quest for truth is a noble mission, reflecting a commitment to the future of the homeland and future generations.
