Sos Disparus was founded in 2001, following the creation of the Collectif des familles de disparues en Algérie (CFDA) in France in 1998, on the initiative of a small group of families of the disappeared. The association works in constant collaboration with the CFDA, which acts as an interface between Algerian families and international human rights bodies such as the UN and the African Commission on Human Rights. Sos Disparus is an Algerian association providing legal and administrative support and advice to the thousands of families of victims of enforced disappearance in Algeria. The premises are a place of welcome, mutual support and remembrance, a space for information and reflection for a fair and appropriate settlement of the case of the disappeared. Sos Disparus acts on a national level by constantly questioning the justice system and the Algerian authorities, by holding family gatherings in front of national institutions, by organizing training courses on international justice and discussion meetings between members of civil society, and by drafting urgent press releases on current cases of disappearance or arbitrary detention.
